What are Antioxidants?
Antioxidants are molecules or substances that hamper the oxidative activities of other molecules. Antioxidants are very important and crucial part of our daily lives. They are found in various types of foods and fruits. They are also used as additives in a variety of products. Free radicals that are found in the human body and also in the environment can cause different types of diseases.
These antioxidants due to their oxidative activities can inhibit free radicals formation within the human body. Antioxidants are also considered to slow down the aging process in humans. They can also save us from different types of ailments such as cancer, cataract, muscular degeneration, cardiovascular diseases, etc. you can find them in your regular food and dietary supplements as well. Foods such as Broccoli, grains, nuts, fruits, various green and leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, etc. usually contain large amounts of antioxidants. Antioxidants can also be found in traces in poultry products and meat.
It is a good and healthy option for us to include foods in our diets that are full of antioxidants. These antioxidants can save us from various catastrophic reactions that are going on inside our bodies and also save us from different types of disorders. There are different types of antioxidants that we can consume by eating some particular foods, vegetables and fruits. High caloric foods with saturated fats can easily increase the formation of free radicals in your body. This will lead to initiation of certain degenerative processes in your body. So by regularly consuming foods abundant with antioxidants you can inhibit free radical formation. Generally antioxidants are divided in to two main categories i.e. water soluble antioxidants and fat-soluble antioxidants. Now we will discuss certain types of antioxidants that are found in dietary supplements, foods, vegetables, fruits, etc. and are beneficial for our health.
Vitamin A
Vitamin A falls in to the fat-soluble category of antioxidants.It is very essential for normal growth of the body.Essential for healthy teeth, bones and skin.It is also very good for your eyesight.Prevents the formation of calculi in kidneys.Helps to lower cholesterol levels in your body.Found in Milk, egg yolks, Mozzarella cheese, Mangoes, Carrots, Spinach, Sweet potatoes, liver, dried apricots, etc.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C also known as ascorbic acid.It is an antioxidant that is water soluble.Prevents skin from damages caused by direct sun exposure.Increases iron absorption in the body which is necessary for the formation of red blood cells.Increases immunity and male sperm count as well.Found in Brussels sprouts, Strawberries, Lemon, Lime, oranges, Green peppers, green leafy vegetables, etc.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is also fat-soluble.It is very essential for healthy and glowing skin.It is very helpful for thinning of the blood.Vitamin E is found in wheat germ oil, palm oil, sunflower oil, Avocados, Asparagus, kiwifruit, mangoes, papayas, sweet potatoes, etc.
Selenium
Selenium It also helps lowering the high levels of cholesterol in body.Reduces heart related problems.It also protects from prostate and lung cancer.Necessary for good health, but only in traces.Selenium can be found in garlic, chicken, eggs, red meat, grains, fish, kidney, tuna, lobster, etc.
Manganese

As we know that quality always comes with some cost, so here we have to keep in our minds that although these antioxidants are very good and necessary for us, but consuming large quantities of them can cause various ailments. So try to use them with balance.
